Looks like the AV component can not be installed.

As written in the logfile, for further investigation I would try to install the landesk agent without the AV component. And afterwards try to deploy the AV component over an "install/update security components" task, with all progress diaglogs and interactive troubleshooting on.

Printer inventory?

Hi,

Does anybody know how to inventory all the printers on your network. I'm looking to get a list of the names, IPs, Serial Numbers, Model, etc..

Does LANDesk organize printers into their own list somehow?

Thanks

Re: Printer inventory?

Hi pmitola,

Indeed Landesk Data Analytics (LDDA) does it through the Discovery Services. LDDA just does an SNMP scan and puts what data it returns from that scan into inventory. As far as documentation goes (see Data Analytics Self-Paced Training) we will pull whatever data that the hardware supports based on the SNMP protocol. This includes things such as printer ink level etc. The Discovery Services tool it just a way for customers to run these SNMP scans (which were widely available previously) and store it in LDMS for reporting.

You’ll note that the community article has some details on Printer specific information. However SNMP scans is much more than just printers. SNMP is a standard connection protocol (just like HTTP and even ODBC)..

I hope it will clarify things up,

Good luck!

Sebastien.

Hi, getting a SEP virus detection on a LANDesk file have anyone gotten this before ? See in the file list it is used by LD AV ?( we don't use it)

We just had the same scenario here. If you have Endpoint Security as part of your agent this file will be included. We submitted the file to Symantec for exception.

Hi Srenno,

LDMS 8.8 is quite outdated at this point, and no longer receives updates. The current build is 9.6 SP2. No LDMS updates should have been delivered to you for 8.8 any time recently. If you are experiencing issues, you will want to be on a supported platform in order for support to provide assistance.

Hi All,

We are performing the LANDesk in-place upgrade from 9.5 Sp2 to 9.6 , the installation is stuck at “Importing Software Distribution Method to Database” more than 3 hours , nothing is happening .

Can I restart the installation ?

Please help.

Is it possible and safe to use TLS protocol instead of SSL in LDMS 9.6 SP1

Hello,

Our IT security Engineer asked that TLS be used instead of SSL protocol because of its security flaws.

Is it possible to use TLS in LDMS 9.6 SP1 without side effects ?

Thank you in advance for your answers.

Report Scheduling option not available: UDD report

$

Our InfoSecurity team recently tried to schedule a report they created in LDMS 9.6 SP2. They designed a report for UDD that displays devices on the network that aren't assigned to the core server. They found they are unable to schedule this report. We took ownership, moved to different folders, etc, but still could not schedule the report. I looked back in our old core and found the UDD report on our 9.5 core to not have the schedule option either (greyed out).

In my digging I found it mentioned that reports based off queries can be schedule while reports could not. That of course, was in reference to a pre-9.6 environment. Is this still the case?

From 9.6 SP1 to 9.6 SP2

Hey guys

So we are about to set up patch management in our LDMS environment and therefore we are considering upgrading from 9.6 SP1 to 9.6 SP2.

Last time we were upgrading from 9.6 to 9.6 SP1, and a lot of stuff did not work and we were down for like 4 days

My question is, do any of you have any experience with upgrading from 9.6 SP1 to 9.6 SP2? Anything that will stop working or something like that?

Thank you all in advance

/Dennis

Hi Dennis,

Issues with upgrades happen all the time, with all products.

What I would suggest is that you plan in advance what can happen and how you can avoid it. To do this I would advise setting up a development/test environment with a copy of your vm, or using the vmware conversion tool, a physical to vm transfer to a vcentre application or using virtual box on your workstation, making sure you backup the database before hand. Now when you turn the virtual image on , make sure it is off the network and used in host only mode. This will prevent conflict with your current production core. Then using either a evaluation version of sql server or using your own copy, copy the database into your test environment and point the (now) test core to the backed up database.

Once finished test the upgrade and see if any upgrades occur.

If this is not possible, then backup backup and then backup some more. Backup your db before the upgrade and create a virtual snapshot (if possible) of the actual core. Then rollback if there are any issues. Do this in downtime to prevent impacting the users.

Thanks

Martin

Hi Martin

Good advice there, and we are already going to backup everything, so I was looking for something more as a known-error or something.

Like in 9.6 SP1, Multicast did not work as it should, so if we had used multicast, we wouldn't consider 9.6 SP1 at all.

Anything that bugs with 9.6 SP2 in generel?

Hi Dennis,

As every environment is different there is no way to predict what issues that you might experience this is why LANDESK would encourage you to test before hand.

I have heard of no issues with SP2 and have actually found it to be very stable.

Thanks

Martin

Re: Can't install 9.6 SP1 console on Windows 10 64-bit

So what I ended up doing was tricking the install and removing the part where it tries to update Data Analytics. To do this I edited the setup.xml file located under c:\programdata\landesk\managementsuite\install\9.60\data\main\9.60.1\ (DO NOT close out of the installer)

You will need to find this section and delete it

<Command Name="Update3">

        <DisplayId>execution_Update3</DisplayId>

        E:\LANDESK_patches\LD960-SP1-Console\updates\3\setup64.exe

        <Parameters>/s /wrapped_ui</Parameters>

        <ExitCode>0</ExitCode>

        <ResultHandler ErrorHandler="RequireSuccessPermitExceptionList">

          <SuccessReturnCodes>0</SuccessReturnCodes>

          <SuccessPermittedExceptionsReturnCodes>10</SuccessPermittedExceptionsReturnCodes>

          <RebootReturnCodes>3010</RebootReturnCodes>

          <FailureReturnCodes />

        </ResultHandler>

      </Command>

Close out of the xml file.

Once it is deleted save it to your desktop and then move it to the location listed above. You will be prompted to allow it to be overwritten. The last thing you need to do is to click retry and it installs and opens as it is supposed to.

I don't use Data Analytics (yet) so I am not sure if it will break anything with that.

Good luck.

Hard drive is running out of space - how to turn off downloaded patches?

$

Hi,

After installing LANDesk 9.2 onto Windows 2012 server, the patches it's downloading have filled up the disk drive space for patches.

We want to move the location to another drive, whichHow to change the default Patch Location for Security and Patch Manager says how to do. Before we do that, we also want to limit the downloads it's doing.

I've gone to tools->Security and Compliance->Patch and Compliance->The Download Updates option.

It only lists a few options (Landesk Anti-Virus Updates, Microsoft Windows Defender and Microsoft Windows Vulnerabilities), however the directory lists a lot more files. We don't want things like Microsoft Office 2007 updates for example. Where do I turn that off, or get a more detailed list of what patches or drivers LANDesk is downloading?
