Re: Schedule Time Creep Issue

Hi Jared,

Can I step back a bit here and make sure everyone is talking the same thing.

Are you talking about tasks you have scheduled locally on the client or are you talking about tasks you have scheduled centrally on the server. I don't see that you specifically identify reading back in this thread.

If you are scheduling locally, have you instead tried scheduling centrally? A centrally scheduled task shouldn't be slipping anymore (it used to but that is what I remember changing). Even in a very large environment it should be possible for it to contact each device that is online within the window you need. Also if you have a pretty frequent policy check interval and have it setup as a policy supported push then you have the belt and braces of policies picking it up. Locally scheduled tasks may seem the obvious thing to use but they weren't actually designed to do specifically what you are trying to do here even if it seems like they should have been. Would the alternative I've suggested work, or is this actually what you are struggling with?

Re: Inventory scan

How long are you waiting for the scan to appear?

An inventory scan should be part of the initial agent deployment anyway (even if you have switched off the software scan since you should still get a hardware scan). There shouldn't be any reason to run a manual scan on the device to send inventory.

How are you deploying the agent? If you send to a new device and it doesn't appear, are there any windows event log entries on your server that show errors with processing the inventory?

Has there ever been an agent on these devices before? Possibly for a different core server? If so then the first scan might be getting rejected because it is 'out of sync'.

Inventory scan failed : the system cannot find the file specified

Hello,

We're having a bit of a problem here; We're trying to run an inventory scan for clients' information where we only have name and ip address.

The problem is we always have this same error in the console : "the system cannot find the file specified". We already checked this documentation, changed the path and made sure the file in use was present in the client's folder.

When we checked the log (on the client side) related to the inventory scan, we're having this error :

Thu May 31 12:04:42 2018: LDISendScanRequest failed to post - Session Error 3:  IOError

Thu May 31 13:29:49 2018: LDISendScanRequest failed to post - Session Error 3:  IOError

Does anyone have an idea on what it could be ?

Thanks in advance.

PXE Service on Preferred Server does not start successfully

Hello,

I'm new to the EPM solution, so perhaps am not complete familiar with the all the 'correct' terms.   We are running 2017.3 Update 4 (Version 10.1.30.401)

Our Preferred Servers are configured to support PXE booting.   On one of the Preferred Servers the "LANDesk(R) PXE Service" does not start successfully.    Each time the service starts it fails as an application error, shown the event log as:

Faulting application name: pxesvc.exe, version: 10.1.30.401, time stamp: 0x59a014a7

Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 10.0.14393.2312, time stamp: 0x5b1a0c4d

Exception code: 0xc0000005

Fault offset: 0x00046bb1

Faulting process ID: 0x114c

Faulting application start time: 0x01d4087b6a0bf4ec

Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\LANDesk\PXE\System\pxesvc.exe

Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll

Report ID: 31a2e217-2faf-46b1-862a-55311fc3cf43

Faulting package full name:

Faulting package-relative application ID:

This repeats every 1 minute, with the service is started again (I assume some watchdog component of the EPM Agent) and the application failing.

I have completely uninstalled the Agent using the "uninstallwinclient.exe /forceclean /showui /noreboot" option - and the manually rebooted, cleaned up and left over LANDesk folders from C:\Program Files (x86) and C:\ProgramData.  After this I have redeployed the Agent - but this does not help .

Nothing I've done has helped me to resolve this issue.

I wonder if anyone has any suggestions, or is experiencing a similar issue please?.

Thank you

Iain.

Exception code: 0xc0000005 should be "access denied"

Can you try to start the service as a different user?

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

By default the service is trying to run as the Local System Account.  For testing purposes I have changed this to an Administrator equivalent account and am returned the same failure.

Regards

Iain.

so what i am trying to run is a task from UEM, in this specific case a data analytics rule. it can only be ran from UEM. but what happens is if i schedule it at 7am and repeat daily then the next scheduled time is 24 hours from completion not 24 hours from the start time like i want.

I had to uninstall agent, delete client from core, reinstall agent for me to get it to work.

-Best.

OK - so *LOCAL* scheduler versus "Core-side Scheduler" is a very important distinction here to make. So there was definitely some apples & oranges going on here, well observed, Mark. Thanks.

Too shot for a detailed response, but THIS -- Getting Started with the MBSDK (Example Scripts Included) -- is going to be holding the solution to your problem, by and large.

Will try to get back to this thread when I'm firing more than 1/2 a brain-cell later in the week, fingers crossed.

If that doesn't work, make use of the "/debug" switch to get detailed logging as to where things are going awry.

Also, contacting support to get the latest SU (Service Update) for your version of EPM ...

The following articles may help you (the first one includes info on the debug-logging):

So as a more detailed response -- you can use the API's in the MBSDK to kick off a task at a given time.

The Core-side scheduler follows the time-creep for somewhat similar reasons to the local scheduler, but there it would have more justification in needing a "start at this time and this time only" mode, which you could/should add your voice of interest in the (I would guess existing) enhancement request over here -- Enhancement Requests .

Are you happy with having a play with the MBSDK API (if you've created the task, you just need to grab the Task ID and can kick it off at a specified time)?

Deploy machines to a new domain?

$

Hi all,

We have a core server running in a domain, which images workstations for the same domain and then the install steps join them to the domain, etc. The workstation is then managed from LDMS (EPM) for remote, patch, etc.

We're having to implement a new domain as part of a global policy, which is tied to a PC rollout on Win 10.

My question is - can I use my existing LDMS server to image, deploy and manage workstations on a different domain? Or will I need to deploy a new management server as a member of that domain first?

Thanks!

You sure can.  We have six different domains here and manage and provision all of our endpoints using one core.  We use some PowerShell scripts to join the domain during provisioning and just use a service account setup in each domain.

Inventory Server error

Hello,

I have 226 nodes in the console, but 86 nodes do not report the inventory information to the central server. I find this error in the central server events. Is this a possible cause for not having an updated inventory? another cause? Thanks

Usually a rejected inventory scan would be an error 4100. If you have those, check out these articles:

If that doesn't help you, I'd suggest contacting support where the following article may be handy, so that support can see if they can quickly duplicate the problem with your scan file & figure out what needs to be fixed (usually a DB-table needs to be extended):

Aye - by and large, as long as networking plays ball (and you don't have DNS issues), we don't really "care" about domains.

By and large, the only sensitive part is putting the agent down - once that's the case, we don't really worry much about domains as such for most things, and you might as well be in a workgroup environment (I say this because I - to this day - run into environments that are running in that mode).

Once the agent is down, authentication to the agent happens via certs & such ... the only time domain stuff becomes relevant is accessing files from a file-share, where either HTTP and/or Preferred Servers (with separate credentials) can be a big help.

Is that a decent enough start for you?

Re: LDMAIN / LDLOGON Share Security Settings

I ran into a similar issue and was seeing the same error messages.  however, security settings were all correct as shown above.

In my case, I found that the solution was that Advanced Sharing had not been set up correctly for the folders.

To resolve:

1) Right-click ldmain folder / go to Properties.

2) Click the Sharing tab at the top.

3) Click Advanced Sharing.

4) Make sure Share this folder is checked.  Then click the Permissions button.

5) Make sure that the correct accounts are able to at least "read" that folder.

This resolved my issue quickly.  Hopefully this helps you if you find yourself in the same boat after a server move or some other error introduced by accident!

How do I bypass Maintenance Windows, when pushing Distribution Packages

$

Hi, I am a new admin, and my first job was tackle patching. I have been working with Ivanti for a few months and I am starting to use distribution packages.

I have 2 packages one is an .exe that installs our Anti-Virus Software, and the other is a batch file that does the same thing with a few different variables.

When attempting to push this to a few machines I am getting the error message Failed "an Attempt was made to install a package outside of the maintenance window"

I know that pushing repairs can bypass this window, is there a better way I can set this up to push out packages during hours?

People were complaining so my maintenance windows and Scans all are set to run from 1AM-6AM.
